Cutting / Charcuterie Boards FAQ

Is my board food safe?

All of our boards are sealed with an FDA certified food contact safe oil and wax coating. We recommend reapplying your favorite board oil or wax whenever you feel like your board could use a refresh. We find most customers need to do this every 3-5 months.

What board wax do you recommend?

Our current favorite is Walrus Oil brand board wax.

How do I clean my board?

In conjunction with our wax board coating, mild soap and water does a great job at keeping your board clean and sanitary. A quick wipedown with a damp cloth is our preferred method. Avoid submerging your board in water, if you feel your board needs a deeper clean try a light scrubbing with some mild soap and water.

Should I put my board in the dishwasher?

Definitely not! A run in the dishwasher will almost certainly ruin our boards.

Can I cut on the resin part of my board?

While you certainly may cut on the resin portion of our boards, it tends to show knife marks a little more harshly than the wood areas. With our “river” style boards it’s a little tricky to avoid cutting on the resin areas, so we find a lot of people prefer to use them as serving trays or charcuterie boards.

Can I put hot items on my board?

We recommend using this rule: If it’s too hot for you to touch, it’s too hot for the board. Avoiding direct contact with hot items will keep your board looking new longer!

Is my board okay to use in direct sunlight?

Boards with a lot of resin in them do have the possibility to bend slightly in direct sunlight if it’s very hot out. While this is rare, it’s best to try to keep them in the shade and avoid using them for extended periods outside on extremely hot days just to be safe.
